My headcanons for the Dekarios family might differ from other people, I picture the family having their own drama and problems. The two oldest siblings are Adventurers these days and have a party, while Nova still lives in Waterdeep, he's currently attending his last few years of bard college, so he doesn't live with their mother.

Nova has a different father, and is an oops-baby Morena had from an one-night stand, I'm not 100% sure if there's any canon material on Gale's father but in my hcs he was a noble that Morena married for the funding and support of her research. He died very early in their marriage when Gale and Eleanor were too young to remember him, leaving Morena with an inheritance.

I'm not 100% finished with the family dynamics entirely so I'm undecided on what their relationship was like, but Morena always carried the family name so her husband probably would have taken her name as a social status thing.

Eleanor started acting out since she and Gale were young and he was the favored child, while Silas became parent-ified and helped Morena around their household because of the lacking father figure. Eleanor's first breaking point is when Gale summons Tara, and she slowly starts distancing herself from her brother and acting out more, while Silas begins to distance himself as well.

All children were taught wizardly things, and while Silas had picked up on some things, Eleanor was never really able to make much use of it, she envied Gale. Silas became an adventurer and eventually forced Eleanor to join his party when she was a young adult because she had gotten herself into trouble after comiting some petty thefts.

During Gale's early college time? I'm not sure when wizards start with that but he'd have been 15 in this case, Morena has that one night stand and decides to keep the baby because her household gets empty with Silas and Eleanor gone.. (Nova is born afab) Gale gets parent-ified a bit here and there, Nova is sort of used to keep Gale from fooling around too much around College, and then eventually he becomes Mystra's chosen so Nova starts feeling abandoned by him.

That's pretty much all I got thus far, some ideas still swimming around. I'm sure there's people with family ocs as well, so any similarities might be coincidental. I did my best to make mine a bit more unique.

As for why I decided on complicated family dynamic: I often struggle with writing healthy families, because I have zero experience with how that'd supposed to look like. I found the narrative more compelling for my personal Gale headcanons, by crafting his childhood a bit more outside of the Mystra thing.

Gale in the comic's timeline (@ohnoestherestadpoles) Still hasn't fully processed all of his family drama, the Mystra / orb thing kind of came in the middle of it and then he socially isolated himself from anyone except of Tara and Elminster. Nova being busy with college also means he probably hasn't seen his little brother in a long time.

And yes, ''the third sibling'' theme is inspired by Minthara dialogue, haha. Idk, I just like the idea of her taking one look at him and figuring that out purely by experience.

Baldurs gate 3 is very funny in that it brings together a group of people who under most circumstances would consider themselves a found family but just so happens to have populated the group with soley people who would be vehemently against calling it that

every time i'm reminded of that bit about gale's mom regularly having lunch with tara and withers i cannot stop thinking about gale one day accidentally walking into one, then taking his mother aside and quietly asking if they're courting. like, he legit has to ask if withers is going to be his new dad. and also has morena considered that the dekarios family has not had very good luck with dating immortal deities and perhaps she should reconsider???

meanwhile withers is like "dost thou have a problem" while tara spits pigeon feathers out at the table
